Every Pesach, it’s the same routine. Wipe down our pantries, pull out the “special” dishes, and discard of all the delicious bread products that are practically a staple item in my life. But recently, I read an article from Heritage: Florida Jewish News that will make me think twice about what I do with my chametz.
The article entitled “Hoist your chametz and give Jewish Family Services,” explained that this year the Feinstein Challenge, a canned food drive benefiting JFS pantries, coincides with Pesach.
JFS is an organization that has offices located across the nation. It serves to everyone in the
community, regardless of religion, and helps out anyone in need. Teaming up with local businesses and synagogues to hold canned food drives such as this one is one of JFS’ objectives, to feed the hungry.
On that note, the article further expands by explaining that last year more than $107,000 meals were supplied for not only families but for individuals as well.
This year, they are requesting “peanut butter, canned fruit and vegetables, tuna fish, items for children’s lunch bags and noodle or pasta dinners.”
Don’t let your food go to waste and feed a family in need.
If you’re in the area, Orlando, Fla. is taking donations!
