Is #Occupy anti-Semitic? (spoiler alert: no) [Parsing]

Our previous post on #Occupy and the baseless charges of anti-Semitism that have been levied against the movement as a whole based on a few crazy people has received more trackbacks than any other I can remember in this blog’s history.  As far as #Occupy bots are concerned, we must be great writers!

But just in case we didn’t convince you the first time around: the #OWS GA approved a statement condemning recent anti-Semitic acts in Brooklyn:

Today we condemn the reported acts of “torching three cars and defacing other property with anti-Semitic messages.” Specifically, it has been reported that “eight nearby benches were sprayed with Nazi swastikas, SS, KKK symbols, and other inflammatory remarks.”The media has attempted to implicate OWS in these criminal acts while offering zero evidence to support their claims. This ignores the fact that OWS’s values and daily activities demonstrate openness, inclusiveness, and equality.

This clearly isn’t going to convince those who are just latching onto this claim for political gain – but there’s a lot of misinformation floating around as a result of that, so strong statements like these are definitely helpful.

One more thing: in case you’ve never experienced direct democracy before (or even if you have), take a look at this video:

Getting a group to agree on anything with a process like this is pretty difficult.  A statement ratified by the #OWS GA is serious business, and, by all rights, should definitively put the anti-Semitism-meme to rest.
