Kicking off the start of JAM, Jewish Awareness Month, tonight Alan Dershowitz, Esq. will be speaking at the University of Florida. Hosted by UF Hillel, ACCENT, and the Jewish Student Union, at tonight’s discussion, Mr. Dershowitz will be holding a conversation forum with the President of the University of Florida, Dr. Machen, followed by a Q&A.
Now, of course when I saw who was speaking to kick off JAM, I was taken by surprise. In the past, Andy Samberg, Jean Simmons and other Jewish celebrities have been the “opening acts.” Hits in the past, I could only imagine who they would bring this year. Mr. Dershowitz never came to mind.
However, after doing a little bit of research myself, I found out that this controversial lawyer has defended people most of us know, specifically O.J Simpson and Mike Tyson. Tonight from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., he will be speaking at the University of Florida where most recently Penn and Teller, Nicholas Kristof and Valerie Plame have taken center stage. Most recently, Mr. Dershowitz’s claim to fame is joining the legal team of Julian Assange, founder or Wikileaks.
On March 16, Matisyahu will be coming to speak at the University of Florida as well. When more information becomes available, I will make sure to post information on the event!
Both speaking events are free and open to the community!
