Over a decade ago, the ADL added “Rugrats” to its tabulation of anti-Semitic propaganda. Despite the fact that it brought us the story of Hanukkah, viewable above, the ADL said the show’s depiction of Jewish characters perpetuated stereotypes.
One NW blogger analyzes below:
I recently read something surprising about “Rugrats,” the Nickelodeon cartoon: I learned that the ADL had attacked Tommy’s Grandpa Boris, an old man with a heavy Yiddish accent who taught millions of American children the story of Passover, as an anti-Semitic caricature. Abe Foxman claimed that Boris bore a strong resemblance to Nazi-era drawings, especially by way of his large nose.
