The famous lesson of the Tower of Babel, and of the overrated movie “Babel,” is that language is the source of our division. Language influences culture (how many words do we have in America for sex and beer?), culture influences belief and when beliefs get strong, people can die. Especially Arab people and Jewish people.
So what would happen if we knew each other’s langages? How would that affect culture?
Acclaimed sociolinguist David Mendelsohn, a consultant to Givat Haviva in Israel, will explore these issues as they relate to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict at an exciting lecture this coming Wednesday night. Click here for more info, and please note that there will be free food!
