And you thought you needed a high school diploma to get elected to political office.
Rachel Lester, a 15-year old sophomore at Los Angeles’s Jewish  Shalhevet School, won an election last week to serve as a representative to the South Robertson Neighborhood council. Her victory makes her the youngest representative ever elected to an LA neighborhood council. Lester, who lives in the Jewish neighborhood of Pico-Robertson, already participates in several extracurriculars at her school.
According to LA’s Jewish Journal, Lester brought out the vote by sending personal emails, going door to door and making sure that her fellow students got to the ballot box. The minimum voting age for the councils is 13. She also added a nice touch to her candidacy by ending her written statement with a smiley-face emoticon. Yes we can!
