If your family is anything like mine, you already have Judaism on demand.
Kugel recipes; memories of the Lower East Side; updates on the Brandeis art museum – I have it all push of a button: speed-dial to my 98-year-old great aunt, Jay, in Pompano Beach.
But for folks without an on-call source for Jewish book reviews (The Chosen was “wonderfulâ€; Portnoy’s Complaint, “too filthyâ€), there's an alternative. It's called the Jewish Channel.
From http://www.tjctv.com/:
The Jewish Channel brings your culture home. Delivering hundreds of five-star movies, original news, cultural programming, and so much more, TJC gives you the opportunity to explore all that the Jewish world has to offer — from the comfort of your living room…TJC is Judaism, On-Demand.
I discovered TJC (which sits between between “WWE 24/7†and “Adult On Demand†on our menu) while searching for old episodes of HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher.†Intrigued by this new option, I clicked on the channel, only to be denied a minute later when I wanted to watch “Awake Zion,†a documentary about rabbis and rastafari. Turns out TJC is a premium channel.
So can anybody tell me about their stuff? Have you seen “Modern Jewish Mom†or “Rabbis’ Roundtableâ€? Is there a “Real World: Upper West Side†in the works?
Here in Rhode Island, as long as we’ve got Aunt Jay on the other line (“Have you been to the Jewish museum yet?â€), my parents aren’t springing for Jewish HBO.
