How Jews Eat from MyJewishLearning.com on Vimeo.
The folks at MyJewishLearning.com are going multimedia on us! They recently published a video titled “How Jews Eat”, the second in an ongoing series that began with “How Jews Look”.
As one commentor noted on Jewish food blog Jcarrot.org, the characters in this video bear an uncanny resemblance to those in “How Jews Look“, and the lack of visible Jewish cultural diversity is a bit of a minus. But really, the video is cute, and editor-in-chief of myjewishlearning.com Daniel Septimus honestly admits that the site is “…a non-profit, which doesn’t exactly have the budget to fly to multiple locations for geographical diversity.” Fair enough.
My gripe is that I can’t figure out who these videos are for. They are seemingly too vanilla for college students, too slow for teens, and too basic for 20/30-somethings. And aren’t these groups the major YouTube consumers?
As a 20-something, video-making Jew, I’m always glad to have new media on the scene, and I look forward to the next “How Jews___”. That being said, I’d like to see this series do something a little deeper, a little edgier, or at least with a clearer purpose.
