An Iranian Final Solution, Clear and Present Bias, Ice Ice Rabbi, Sex on the Kitchen Table An Iranian Final Solution? Iran's former president suggests using nuclear weapons against Israel Here's a story for those who think it's unfair that Israel is the Middle East's sole nuclear power. This December, former Iranian President Hashemi Rafsanjani gave a public address in which he suggested that nuclear weapons should be used against Israel. The Associated Press reported that Rafsanjani called Israel's birth "the most hideous historic occurrence in history" and said the Islamic world "will vomit her out from its midst," according to a letter of protest sent by Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres to the foreign ministers of United Nations Security Council members. Rafsanjani said that the Islamic world will acquire nuclear weapons and that "On that day, the strategy of the West will hit a dead end, since a single atomic bomb has the power to completely destroy Israel, while an Israeli counterstrike can only cause partial damage to the Islamic world," according to Peres' letter. In his letter, the substance of which was confirmed by Iranian press reports, Peres called Rafsanjani's remarks "bone-chilling" and said they belied Iran's insistence that its nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes. Clear and Present Bias Reuters forgets the difference between reporting and editorializing It's not unheard of for supporters of Israel to cry wolf on the issue of media bias. That said, sometimes there really is bias, and sometimes it's pretty blatant. The Weekly Standard, a conservative magazine, recently found a real whopper. It noted that in January the British news agency Reuters sent a news article containing the following phrase over its wire: "the United States, which gives Israel about $2 billion a year in weaponry used to kill Palestinians, objected to the $100 million [Iranian arms] shipment to the Palestinians." Emphasis added by The Weekly Standard. Ice, Ice Rabbi Brooklyn rabbi falls short of ice endurance record Some Jews will do anything to prove that the Chosen People are of sound body and spirit. Rabbi Abraham Abraham (yes, that's really his name) went so far as to freeze himself. According to the The New York Jewish Week, the Brooklyn-based Orthodox rabbi sealed himself inside "a sukkah-sized shack" made from bags of ice for 54 hours and 34 minutes in a quest for the Guinness World Record for ice endurance. The rabbi dedicated his efforts, which fell just over five minutes short of the record, to the victims of the World Trade Center attacks. Outside, the rabbi had an ambulance on hand and, for security, 27-year-old former Israeli soldier, Elon Moss. "We have to watch out for the terrorists," Moss told The Jewish Week. Sex on the Kitchen Table Percentage of Italians who enjoy sex on the kitchen table: 10% Percentage of Israelis who enjoy sex on the kitchen table: 3% (Source: 2001 Durex Global Sex Survey via The Jerusalem Post via The New York Jewish Week. No information is available as to how many Italian or Israeli kitchen tables have suffered irreparable harm as a result of this sort of behavior.)
