Ugly Sweaters: Now for Jews, Too

Chanukah Sweaters 2
I want I want I want!

So here it is: I’m That Girl.

You know, the one who consciously finds hipster to be cool. The one who shops at the fakest hipster store ever, Urban Outfitters, to look just a little hipster on those few days I can wear some of the expensive hipster clothes I managed to buy without sending my bank account into cardiac arrest. Today I’m even wearing a sweater my mom wore when she was younger. It’s ugly. It’s awesome.

So needless to say, with Christmas approaching and atrocious holiday sweaters gracing the windows of every storefront in New York City, my little Jewish soul is turning holly-green with religious envy. I’ve never been too jealous of Christmas trees or presents– we get to play with fire and open presents for eight days straight– but suddenly ugly is in, and I want in. (Urban is so cool they can even get away with calling their products ugly. And that only makes it more desirable.)

But baruch Hashem, good news for the Jews: there’s Kickstarter to save the day. Geltfiend, started by Carin Agiman, launched her Chanukah Sweaters project in August with this awesome video. These horribly hideous sweaters are so fantastically unattractive that it’s worth the $65 (!) just to have the privilege of sporting one. It’s finally cool to be Jewish!

Now I can be the coolest girl at the holiday party, without sacrificing my soul. My only question is where I can get that awesome Jewfro.
