IDF Tells Soldiers Not to Post Embarrassing Photos on Facebook, Thanks Mom

I am paranoid. The more I understand about law, the government, advertisers and the Internet the more freaked out I become.

I believe that anything sent via text, posted on the Web or said on a cell phone conversation is being recorded by someone. A corporation, the government, the police, I don’t know who but someone is marking it all down.

So I do not talk about anything that can be perceived as illegal in any digital format.

Apparently no one put this fear into Israeli soldiers. Soldiers caught a lot of flak this summer for posting photos of themselves mistreating Palestinian detainees and for posting youtube videos of themselves synchronized dancing while on duty.

As a result of these embarrassments the IDF announced last week that they will be barring soldiers from using Facebook, Twitter, Gmail and other social networking sites.

IDF Spokesperson Lt.-Col. Gadi Abudi has claimed that this crackdown on Facebook is to prevent sensitive information from being leaked. Come on. Are you sure it is not to stop things like this from being leaked?
